JUMP'IN GYMNASTICS PROGRAM
Hattiesburg, MS

What are the benefits of gymnastics for children?

Gymnastics is an unsurpassed children’s activity that builds fitness as well as teaches essential life skills. Gymnastics is not merely a sport, but rather a great fitness base for every developing child. With childhood obesity hitting an all-time high, gymnastics shows children that being active is fun. Gymnastics teaches children that trying hard is rewarding and attaining a goal that requires hard work is the best feeling! We feel that in addition to the physical skills gymnastics teaches, it also prepares children for life academically, socially and emotionally. Here are a few examples of what gymnastics provides for children:

Academically: memory, organization, listening and problem solving
Socially: goal setting, hard work, perseverance, determination, team building
  Emotionally: builds self-esteem and confidence
Physically: provides fun exercise, teaches that sweating is good and strong muscles are healthy

Ages 1-6

The American Heart Association recommends that all children age 2 and older participate in at least 60 minutes of enjoyable, moderate-intensity activities every day. They should also perform at least two 30 minute periods of vigorous physical activities each day to achieve and maintain a good level of cardio-respiratory fitness. When involved in a structured exercise program, such as gymnastics children are guaranteed to get the recommended level of dynamic activity needed to develop healthy hearts and lungs.

The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) suggests that kindergarteners be exposed to a variety of large motor experiences that enhance sensory-motor integration, develops controlled movement such as balance, strength and coordination and ranges from new to challenging activities. Placing children in pre-school gymnastics and dance classes will ensure they are TAUGHT HOW to run, jump, skip and hop and how to succeed when those activities get difficult; all important physical components of the NAEYC criteria for Kindergarten.

GymStars School-Age Gymnastics
1st Grade & Up

Our goal in the GymStars program is to instill a life-long love of fitness in young athletes. Since gymnastics is the basis of all sports activities, we at Jump’In Gym aim to help every child attain strength, balance, power, flexibility and kinesthetic awareness that will help them excel in whatever activity or sport they choose.

All NEW school-age students should start in a Bronze Level class unless they have been evaluated by a Jump’In Gym coach. Your child may sign-up for a FREE Trial in a Bronze GymStars class to be evaluated or schedule a private evaluation by one of our coaches through the front desk. At the end of the evaluation the coach will let you and the office know which class is appropriate for your child.

Returning students should register for the class in which they last finished. They may also schedule a private evaluation through the front desk to see where your child’s skill level is and what which skills are needed to move-up.

The front desk can also answer any questions you may have about the Jump'In Gymnastics program.

As with our Girls GymStars, the Boys GymStars program aims to instill a love of fitness and strength in every student. Gymnastics is a great foundation for any sport. It provides flexibility, agility, balance and strength training which all lead to success in other sports. The boys program trains on six events: vault, high bar, parallel bars, pommel horse, rings and floor exercise.

If gymnastics isn't for your son, we offer another alternative with the same benefits!

Ninja Kids is a licensed program with lesson plans that progress like a gymnastics class with the fun of a free style movement class. This program is obstacle course based with the discipline of gymnastics while teaching parkour-style skills.

FAQ: How does my gymnast make it to the MS Rebounders competitive boys or girls gymnastics team?

All children have different needs and reach success in different ways. Jump’In Gym feels every child should have an equal opportunity to compete if they wish, no matter which path they take. There are a few different ways to make it onto one of the competitive teams at Jump’In Gymnastics & Tumbling. Here is a breakdown of how your athlete can become a MS Rebounders competitive gymnast or tumbler.

#1 – A physically strong and flexible student, who has shown exceptional listening skills, an extreme level of work ethic and ability to make corrections quickly in class will receive an invitation in the mail to try the SuperStars Girls Pre-Team or FutureStars Boys Pre-Team for 4 weeks to make sure it is a good fit. Jump’In Gym sends out invitations twice a year: April & December.

#2 – Jump’In Gym at times holds team tryouts in April. Students will be asked to show their strength and flexibility along with basic gymnastics skills. Examples of testing skills include running speed, leg lifts, chin-ups, push-up shape holds, arch shape holds, pike stretch, all three splits, bridge, handstands and cartwheels. Athletes will also be tested on bravery and confidence.

#3 - Students in our Girls Gold GymStars or Boys Silver GymStars classes may move into one of our gymnastics team programs: SuperStars Girls Pre-Team, FutureStars Boys Pre-Team, the Jump'In Rec Team,  or the MS Rebounders Gymnastics Team which is broken into two tracks; Xcel and Junior Olympic. Please e-mail the girl's team head coach at gymteam@jumpin-gym.com and the boy's team head coach at boysteam@jumpin-gym.com with questions.
